ReportDissemination and Implementation of Asthma Guidelines
The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) program was initiated in 1992 with the formation of an Executive Committee. One of the Committees first actions was to prepare guidelines entitled Global Strategy for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma, released in 19951 and updated in March 20022. Considerable work has been carried out internationally, by the GINA Executive Committee as well as a number of other groups, to produce guidelines for the management of asthma and many other conditions. Such guidelines are increasingly evidence-based, and their production involves considerable expenditure of time, expertise, and resources. However, if the knowledge contained within guidelines is to improve health outcomes, equal effort is necessary both to disseminate and to implement the recommendations set out in these documents.
